SCANALYST 3 and the GS1 Standards Community

The GS1 Standards for both barcode and RFID are the most widely used and the most comprehensive standards of their type. The addition of application identifiers into the data structures is the barcode equivalent of replacing that old black and white TV with a new HD 3D color console. Considering the added complexities of the standard, variable data printing, the wider scope of users and scanning equipment and the ‘mission critical’ aspects of the newer applications, compliance to standards has become even more important. Recognizing this, the GS1 Community and has now made compliance mandatory and established ISO Grade 2 (ANSI C) as a minimum barcode print quality level. In addition, there is a need for barcode size, placement and encoding to also follow the rules. There are many points along the product manufacturing process where problems could occur. So, to achieve the necessary consistent quality and accuracy, added testing is advised.
